Francesc Calafell és el Director Acadèmic del Màster en Tècniques de Reproducció Assistida Humana de la UPF Barcelona School of Management. És Doctor en Biologia per la Universitat de Barcelona (1995), llicenciat en Biologia per la Universitat. Ha practicat investigació a Yale University (USA), a la Universitat de Barcelona ia la Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
És professor titular del Departament de Ciències Experimentals i de la Salut de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra, amb activitat de recerca en Biologia Evolutiva i Biocomputació de diversificació genòmica. Ha publicat nombrosos articles científics, llibres, ponències a congressos, ha liderat i participat en diversos projectes de recerca.
