On 11 November 2021, the 200th anniversary of the birth of the writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky was celebrated. To mark the occasion, the UPF Ciutadella Campus Library hosted the exhibition Drawings by Dostoyevski, which we are now inaugurating in the hall of the UPF Barcelona School of Management.
The voice of Dostoyevsky, capable of penetrating the depths of the human soul, continues to fascinate us: we identify in his works a universe that is terribly current and close to us. The author's drawings, faces, architectural details and doodles offer us another perspective from which to look at the most famous works of world literature. It allows us to get closer to his process of creating characters and stories.
The exhibition features drawings that the Russian author made while working on novels such as Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Demons and The Brothers Karamazov, which have been found in his manuscripts.
The CRAI-UPF Library also offers a virtual bookshelf with the most outstanding novels by the writer, author of White Nights, the fifth member of the UPF literary collection, and a selection of studies on his life and work.
"The look that his work directs at the human interior is profoundly sympathetic and compassionate, if only to tell us that we cannot achieve absolute happiness and that, nevertheless, it is in our hands to remain in search of luminous moments that give meaning to our existence"
Tamara Djermanovic, epilogue to White Nights
