The UPF Barcelona School of Management (UPF-BSM) has successfully completed the evaluation process of the Business School Impact System (BSIS), and EFMD Global has once again awarded the School its BSIS label. This accreditation underlines the impact generated by the School in 7 different dimensions, including education, research, the economy, and business development in the surrounding area, highlighting its capacity to generate knowledge and strengthen the bonds between the business and academic communities.

“We are proud to continue belonging to the BSIS community, which we joined in 2021 after successfully complete the advising process. Joining the BSIS community has been a transformative journey that has empowered us to tell our story more compellingly, demonstrating how UPF Barcelona School of Management stands as a catalyst for sustainable growth, ethical practices, and positive change within the vibrant ecosystem of Barcelona and the global community. This renewed clarity strengthens our mission to continue delivering excellence in education while contributing to a better future with initiatives such us our particular Social Value study; an innovative methodology which aims to provide an initial assessment of the social value of Business Schools." explains José M. Martínez-Sierra, Director General of the UPF Barcelona School of Management.

Knowledge transfer

BSIS’s evaluation report emphasizes that the UPF-BSM actively contributes towards knowledge creation through its research projects, which have a direct impact both on the School’s own tuition programs and on companies and organizations. The School achieves this impact “through strategic alliances with key players in the region”, such as professional associations, companies and government bodies, facilitating “the development of activities and projects that respond to the needs of the local area”.

One of the main aspects that BSIS highlights is the UPF-BSM’s ability to establish partnerships with local companies and organizations, a crucial factor in applied research, as “they tackle issues of regional interest and boost the transfer of knowledge to the business community”.

The BSIS report highlights very positively the second edition of the UPF-BSM social value study, developed by Luz Parrondo, Erola Palau and Ana Freire, which aims to provide a quantitative assessment of the real social impact through the integrated social value methodology.

Moreover, the BSIS emphasizes the number of events open to the public that the School organizes over the course of the year, including seminars, symposiums and discussion panels, with the aim of fostering the exchange of ideas and intellectual debate.

Intellectual impact

Another aspect rated highly by BSIS is the scientific and research articles and reports published by the UPF-BSM, which tackle specific problems and challenges related to the local and business community. As well as generating specific solutions for local companies, a great deal of this research is “effectively communicated to the stakeholders involved, ensuring that the knowledge generated has a real, measurable impact”. This all consolidates the UPF-BSM’s status as an academic flagship within the surrounding area.

An accreditation that reaffirms our academic leadership

By renewing this accreditation, the UPF-BSM consolidates its position as one of the 60 international business schools that have been awarded the BSIS label, reinforcing its status as a global business school committed to improving the present and future of our society.

About BSIS

The BSIS evaluation process is designed to determine the extent of a school’s impact on its local environment – the city or region in which it is located. The impact of the business school is analysed based on the following seven areas of impact: financial, educational, business development, intellectual, societal, reputational, and impact within the regional ecosystem.
