The International Association of Masters in Business Administration (AMBAs & BGA) has accredited four new programs of the UPF Barcelona School of Management (UPF-BSM), making a total of six in the range of masters and postgraduate programs recognised by the association. These are the family of programs in international business: the Master of Science in International Business, jointly offered with ESCI; the Master in International Business and the Master Online in International Business, as well as the full-time MBA, which will be offered to students from next October.

"Having six programs accredited by AMBA is confirmation for the School that our internationalisation strategy is on the right track", said the Dean of the UPF-BSM, Llorenç Bagur, who also considered that such recognition is a "guarantee of external quality that is difficult to achieve without programs of excellence".

These new distinctions are added to the one recently obtained by EQUIS, which positions UPF-BSM as the first business school linked to a public university in Spain to obtain it and places it just one accreditation (AACSB) away from achieving the triple crown, the highest international distinction.

Students benefit

"The fact that a organisation such as AMBA certifies the quality of our programs is an added value and prestige for our students", said the Dean. Obtaining these seals brings great benefits for students and alumni of the distinguished programs, as it gives them access to an international community with more than 55,000 students from over 150 countries with whom they can network and further develop their careers.

In addition, students and alumni of these programs will have access to a much wider and more international job market.

AMBA certificate

UPF-BSM obtained the AMBA accreditation for the academic year 2020-2021, when its academic quality and reputation were recognised based on the evaluation of the Executive MBA and Master of Science in Management programs. However, it was not until this week that the association held the AMBA & BGA Global Conference for Deans and Directors 2022, where the accreditation certificates were presented.

The Associate Dean of the UPF-BSM, Josep Maria Altarriba, travelled to Lisbon to receive the recognition on behalf of the School from de Steef van de Velde, a member of the AMBA board and former dean of the Rotterdam School of Management. "We had to expand the portfolio of AMBA-accredited programs beyond those that were already part of the initial certification", said Altarriba, who assured that the aim is "to open up the benefits that the association offers to Master's students who are not part of the traditional MBA family, such as access to its extensive network or its professional career services".

In this regard, the Associate Dean highlighted the importance of increasing the number of programs accredited by the association in order to "position itself among the world's elite in its category".

Beyond the awarding of certifications to the schools accredited during the past academic year, the conference provided an opportunity to discuss in depth issues of interest to higher education institutions such as teaching innovation, the concept of lifelong learning, sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion, international partnerships and student experience and wellbeing, among others.
