The Master of Science in Management aims to provide you with a solid knowledge base in business management. The programme focuses on the pillars of business management, strategic management, innovation, and consulting, building a solid foundation for understanding business organizations as a whole.

Who is it for?

The master's degree is aimed at students who want to make a difference and provide value in the business world, developing an international career in business management, as well as in the areas of knowledge of the available specializations. They may be both recent graduates and junior professionals in the field of Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics, among others.

The MSc in Management is an official master's degree and has the academic recognition of the Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain. The program is part of the QTEM network, with more than 20 international universities specialized in economics, finance and management. UPF Barcelona School of Management is the first and only Spanish institution that is part of the QTEM network.

Curriculum

The MSc in Management is organized over three terms.

During the first term of the master all students take a set of five core courses. In the second and third term of the master students make a personal selection of elective courses for their specialization, and can complement them with elective courses from the other specializations. 

Students have the option to do curricular internships in companies (the internship will earn study credits equivalent to two elective courses). Career development sessions will be offered to aid students in finding the placement and prepare them for their professional future.

From October to June, students will work on their MSc Project supervised by a specialized faculty member.

Upon completing the Master, those who wish to pursue a PhD can apply and be evaluated to the program offered by the UPF's Department of Economics and Business.

Classes of the MSc in Management take place at UPF Ciutadella Campus.

The Master of Science in Management also includes the possibility of participating in practical activities and activities for personal and professional growth such as:

  • QTEM Program: After successfully completing the Master of Science in Management students have the opportunity to participate in the QTEM Program, a unique study abroad experience at more than 20 top international universities which are leaders in the field of Economics.

  • Brush-up Courses: these online preparatory courses cover business, analytic tools, economics, physical and chemical principles, and environmental subjects. They are designed for students needing a refresher before starting the program and must be completed and passed either before or during the first month of the master's program.
  • Spanish Course: 80% discount during the first trimester for basic Spanish level. Three hours per week at the Language Service of UPF.
  • Career Development Program: career sessions and workshops where participants obtain specific training on how to improve their professional profile, approach potential employers, and develop professional soft skills.
  • International mobility: The UPF Barcelona School of Management offers you the possibility of expanding your training and international vision through the International Mobility Programme. Extend your studies extracurricularly, during the academic year following the completion of your Master's, at a top-level institution. Limited places.
  • UPF-BSM Inside: is a group of interdisciplinary subjects (applied data, communication, creativity, innovation and project management, sustainability and leadership among others) that, if you take this program, you can access at no additional cost. They are 100% online and you can take them throughout the academic year at your own pace, as they have been designed as self-study subjects.

Qualification obtained

Once students have completed the course they will obtain the Màster Universitari en Ciències Empresarials / Master of Science in Management - Máster Universitario en Ciencias Empresariales / Master of Science in Management official Master Degree, awarded by Pompeu Fabra University.

Students who choose any of the specializations availabe will also receive an additional completion certificate awarded by the UPF Barcelona School of Management.

Issuance of official Master's Degrees: The amount stipulated in the DOGC (Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia) must be paid for the rights to issue the title. This rate varies annually and the rate in force at the time of application for the degree will be applied.

  • Jose Miguel Aliaga Hernandez
    Adjunct professor at ESCI-UPF
    PhD in Supply Chain Management (Candidate) from the Polytechnical University of Barcelona (UPC). He holds a Bachelor in Political Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and has a Master in Supply Chain Management from the UPC. He has held decision-making positions in different companies in the aeronautical industry, working in the areas of purchasing, global operations, logistics and international trade compliance management.
  • Lluis Ferran Blanch Colino
    Lecturer at the Department of Communication of Pompeu Fabra University
    MBA in Marketing from ESADE. Member of the Board of Judges and Advisors since 1996.
  • Alberto Lempira Guevara
    Marketing Consultant specialized in Business Development and Digital Marketing Strategies
    PhD in Business (Candidate) from Barcelona University. He is also MSc in Marketing from Pompeu Fabra University. Has a Postgraduate in Social Media and Digital Marketing from Tecnocampus, a Posgraduate in Transmedia Storytelling & Branded Content and a Postgraduate in Inbound Marketing, both from INESDI and a BE in Production Engineering from Metropolitana University (Caracas). He has worked with different organizations from corporate to political marketing. He is the host of the NotYourMarketer podcast.
  • Daniel Lozano
    He holds a master’s degree in Quantum Physics from the University of Copenhagen. After finalizing his master’s studies, he started to apply all the skills acquired to the fields of Machine Learning and AI to become a Data Scientist/ ML Engineer. Currently, his main areas of expertise are NLP (Natural Language Processing) and computer vision using Python.

Methodology

The Master of Science in Management is an on-campus program that combines different teaching methodologies in its various courses to offer a rigorous and interactive learning experience, involving both individual and group work.

Evaluation

The assessment criteria for each subject will be explained at the beginning of the term. The evaluation system may vary from subject to subject and will be based on the student's performance on a selection of the following activities:

  • Written exams and multiple choice tests
  • Oral presentations
  • Individual assignments and essays
  • Group projects
  • Class participation and debates
  • Ranking in a simulation

Tools

Project-oriented learning and the combination of lectures and active methodologies such as case studies, flipped learning, solving real problems and professional simulations allow the student to connect theory and practice, acquire advanced skills and achieve learning which is transferable to work.
